More and more of our patients travel to Budapest from abroad for rhinoplasty. The process is designed so that everything that can be done remotely is done remotely: consultations, planning, paperwork and test results are all handled online, in English. One thing never moves online: the in-person examination with Dr. Varga Klára a few days before surgery. It exists for a single reason — your safety.

to Budapest and back
This guide shows how rhinoplasty is organised when you are travelling from abroad — what happens online, when you need to be in Budapest, and how we stay with you after you fly home. Every patient is unique, so details may vary slightly, but the framework is the same: safety, predictability, and a calm decision.
Step 1
Online consultation — from wherever you are
Your journey starts with a free 15-minute introductory call, so we can see whether we are a good match. The next step is a detailed video consultation with Dr. Varga Klára, which is booked and paid in advance. We go through your ideas, your complete medical history — previous surgeries, illnesses, medications, allergies — and what is realistically achievable. Please tell us about any serious medical condition before the consultation: if it turns out to be a reason we cannot operate, the consultation fee is refunded.

Step 2
Planning and your quote
Based on the consultation you receive a personal surgical plan and a written quote, valid for three months. A deposit confirms your surgery date. The fee is finalised about two months before surgery, and we ask you to settle the balance before the week of your operation — so nothing about money needs to be arranged during your trip.

Step 3
Tests and paperwork from home
Almost everything before your trip happens online. You have your laboratory tests and imaging done at home and send us the results by the deadline we give you — imaging in a format we can review remotely; some scans, such as a CT, can be done well in advance. Laboratory results must be no older than 30 days, and for patients travelling from abroad additional screening tests (such as hepatitis, HIV and syphilis) are also needed — you receive the exact list in writing after your consultation. The informed-consent documents are sent to you in advance as well, so you can read them calmly, sign them and return them online. The pre-operative anesthesiology assessment also takes place virtually; it is paid in advance directly to the clinic, which handles its billing.

Step 4
Travelling to Budapest — the in-person examination
A few days before surgery, we meet in person in Budapest — this examination is mandatory and cannot be replaced by a video call. Many patients plan it within a single trip: for example, an in-person consultation on Thursday and surgery on Monday. Based on this examination, Dr. Varga may fine-tune the plan — or, if surgery would not be medically justified or safe, modify or cancel it. That is exactly what the examination is for: your safety comes first. One practical note: prescriptions cannot be issued across borders, so before your trip we give you the active-ingredient names of anything you may need, and you receive the paper prescription in person.
If surgery has to be postponed for a medical reason, we look for a new date together — all we ask for is a medical certificate.
Step 5
Surgery and your days in Budapest
The operation itself is the same carefully structured day as for our patients from Hungary — you can read about the procedure on the rhinoplasty page. After surgery you will need a responsible adult to accompany you where the procedure makes it necessary, so please plan your trip with this in mind. Before you are discharged, you receive your post-operative guide and the schedule of follow-up visits — keeping these appointments matters, because missing them can affect your aftercare.

Step 6
Flying home
You fly home only with your treating physician's approval — typically after the splint is removed. For overseas trips it is better to wait about four weeks. We will tell you at your follow-up when it is safe to travel, so please keep your return plans flexible until then.

Step 7
Aftercare from abroad
Once you are home, follow-up continues online: you send photos, and we meet in video consultations as scheduled. If something needs a closer look, we will say so honestly — certain complications can only be assessed and treated in person, and may make a trip back to Budapest necessary. Healing has its own rhythm and every nose settles at its own pace; we stay with you throughout.
The final shape develops over 12–18 months — patience is part of the journey.

- After surgery you will need a responsible adult escort where the procedure makes it necessary — please plan for this when booking your trip.
- Healing and scarring vary from person to person, so no specific aesthetic outcome can be promised in advance.
- We may decline or postpone surgery if your health, the level of cooperation or unrealistic expectations would make it unsafe.
- Your personal data is handled in line with EU data-protection law (GDPR), and care is governed by Hungarian law.
