What should I do with
the nose cast?

The first days and weeks after nasal surgery are crucial for successful healing. Please read and follow the instructions below carefully for the best possible result.

The three most important rules

Pay attention to these
above all

Keep the cast dry!

The cast must never get wet! Showering and washing require special attention.

Rest in a semi-sitting position

At home, rest in a semi-sitting position. Bed rest is not necessary!

Avoid bending over

Avoiding bending over and physical work is recommended for 6 weeks for proper healing.

Daily tasks and care

Everyday life during
the cast period

Rest and posture

At home, rest in a semi-sitting position. This helps reduce swelling and supports circulation. Bed rest is not necessary, but avoid sudden movements.

Limiting physical activity

Avoid bending over and physical work for 6 weeks! This includes lifting weights, intensive sports and any activity that raises blood pressure.

Protecting the cast

The cast must not get wet! Wash carefully when showering, making sure the cast stays dry. Use waterproof film or covering if necessary.

Nasal cleaning

The nose can be cleaned in the way you were shown. Please follow the prescribed technique exactly, as demonstrated to you after surgery.

Managing swelling

Comfrey or Arnica cream, as well as cooling, can be beneficial for swelling. Apply cooling gently and indirectly (a handful of grain frozen in a freezer bag).

Medication

What you need
to take

Antibiotic

  1. Augmentin Duo tablets — 2×1 tablet daily, continued for 4 more days.
  2. Augmentin is the standard antibiotic treatment. If you have a drug allergy, you will receive an alternative antibiotic suited to your individual needs.

Pain relief

  1. Cataflam 25–50 mg — maximum 3× daily, only when needed.

External treatment

  1. Comfrey or Arnica cream — for swelling, combined with cooling.

Local treatment — exact order of application

The 3-step nasal care
protocol

Always carry out the local treatment in the following order:

  1. Nasivin nasal drops

First apply Nasivin nasal drops to both nostrils. This helps shrink the nasal mucosa and prepares it for further treatment.

  2. Cleaning

Gently clean the nasal passages as shown. Do not blow your nose hard, just wipe it gently.

  3. Coldistop or menthol nasal ointment

Finally, apply Coldistop oily nasal drops or menthol nasal ointment. This helps protect and heal the mucosa.

First 48 hours: repeat the full 3-step protocol every 2–3 hours. · After 48 hours: carry out the treatment a maximum of 3× daily.
