Microsurgical precision:
meeting the head of BHKY
On 21 September I welcomed Li Peng, owner and managing director of microsurgical scalpel manufacturer BHKY, in Budapest — a conversation about the future of precision surgery.
On 21 September I had a special guest at the Saint James Clinic: Li Peng, owner and managing director of BHKY, who visited Budapest between her congress appearances in London and Hamburg. BHKY (Beijing Bohai Kangyuan Medical Device Co., Ltd.) has been developing and manufacturing microsurgical precision blades since 2009 — for plastic surgery, ENT and ophthalmology among other fields — with ISO 13485 and CE certification.
Why does this matter in rhinoplasty? According to the manufacturer, these scalpels are made with an exceptionally small blade head, and their edge is considerably sharper than that of commonly used blades — up to twice as sharp, the manufacturer says. In a procedure as delicate as rhinoplasty, where millimetres decide the result, this may allow finer, more controlled incisions and reduce the strain on the surrounding tissues.
The other important topic of our conversation was sustainability: instruments with a more durable edge and a longer service life mean less waste. That matters in my practice too — the responsibility of modern surgery does not end at the operating table.
I am always looking for the most advanced techniques and instruments — as with the Piezosurgery Flex ultrasonic device — and at the meeting the opportunity came up to try BHKY's scalpels in practice. If that happens and there is something worth sharing, you may read about it here, in the news section.
